Ya Tú Sabes

Many dream of absolution.
To be freed from entrapment.
To relish in the quintessential
Opportunity we call — liberty.

However, is there not a price
To be paid for such a human right?
Birds have feathers, but not
All can soar high in the sky.

Tell me.

Where is the justice in that?

Casted down from parent to child
Are seeds from past generations.
Seeds that sprout in many directions,
At various lengths and time.

These seeds become vines
With some budding flowers and
Others with just prickly thorns.

What say for the boy whose
Father is that of a Venus fly trap?
Calm at first, but always ready
To devour when hunger strikes.

We — people of the water, sand,
And stars do not choose what we
Are composed of.

Yet — we must do our best with
What we are made of.

That is humanity.
That is life.
That is freedom.
That is liberty.

Ya tú sabes!

Dare to be beyond
What you were given.

Inspired by the HBO series “DMZ”
